This work is about voyeurism and the act of stalking. I’ve looked at the work by Sophie Calle, who on twice occasions asked two people to set private detectives to follow her about her daily life. However she knew that there was someone following her therefore was the daily life she showed the camera her true life or an act for the camera. In a similar fashion, I have portrayed the camera as a private detective and Tamsin, the actress, as the person being stalked. She is aware that I was photographing her but acting as if she is unaware. This tableau is about creating the feeling of watching someone, the viewer becomes the voyeur as well as the fictional ‘private detective’. I’ve presented it like this because I wanted to show the ‘stalker’ element in a recognisable aesthetic which we’ve seen hundreds of times with films and TV. The notes of times and dates to give the project a sense of time passing before the voyeur is discovered in the final images.
The final presentation was these images printed and pinned to a board with a map, evidence and so on.
